Dr. Osman Mirza

  • Osman Mirza, Associate Professor PhD
    Department of Drug Design and
    Pharmacology
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
    University of Copenhagen
    E-mail: om@sund.ku.dk

Osman Mirza obtained his PhD in protein chemistry and X-ray crystallography in 2003 form the Dept. of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen. This worked focused on structure determination of antibody:antigens complexes and carbohydrate metabolizing enzymes. Subsequently he went to Imperial College London for a postdoc on crystallographic studies of membrane proteins, in particular secondary active transporters, and returned to the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (now the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences) University of Copenhagen for an assistant professorship. In 2012 Osman Mirza became associate professor and permanent faculty member.

Osman Mirza’s current research focuses on understanding the interplay between (un)natural compounds and secondary active transporters involved in health and disease, primarily human intestinal transporters, which play important roles in nutrient and drug absorption. The experimental portfolio of his group includes cloning, protein expression and purification, mutagenesis, functional and biophysical analyses, X-ray crystallography and bioinformatics.
