Dr. Hafiz has 7 research publications and 27 abstracts in international conferences / symposia on his credit. His current research projects involve developing of streptozotocin-induced animal models of diabetes and investigating the effects of natural products in model rats. A variety of in vitro and in vivo assays are employed to elucidate the mechanism of action of anti-diabetic plant extracts. The study deals with the histological / immunohistochemical change(s) of the pancreatic islets that occur in diabetic rats and whether these changes can be prevented by different natural products. Additionally his current focus is to elucidate the mechanism(s) of Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) formation in diabetic kidney and possible preventive role of natural/synthetic compounds on AGEs formation in model diabetic rats.
