Dr. Waraich completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the Eberhard Karl’s University Tuebingen in Germany. She joined Dr. Panjwani Center of Molecular Genetics and Drug Research (PCMD) as Assistant professor in Karachi, Pakistan. She then completed her post-doctoral fellowship in cellular and molecular physiology at Northwestern University school of medicine, in Chicago, USA. She has now re-joined PCMD as Assistant professor.
Dr. Rizwana S Waraich research is focused on pathophysiology of diabetes and obesity. She identified novel insulin signal transduction defects in diabetes in her graduate studies. In her postdoctoral research she explored early life programming of metabolic syndrome and obesity in youths via molecular and cellular physiology techniques. Her recent research interest is to decipher the role of synthetic compounds and natural products in the maintenance of energy homeostasis and pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome.
