Curriculum Vitae
Prof. Muhammad Raza Shah is a prominent Pakistani scientist specializing in chemistry, particularly in the areas of nanotechnology, materials science, and drug delivery systems. He is a well-known figure in the field of nanomedicine, with significant contributions to the development of nanocarriers for targeted drug delivery. He completed his doctoral research in 2003 under a sandwich program at Max-Planck Research Institute for Polymer Mainz, Germany and HEJ followed by two Post-Doctoral researches 1st at Geneva University Switzerland (2004) and the 2nd at Max-Planck Research Institute for Polymer Germany (2007). He received an honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) from University of Karachi in 2025. Dr. Shah is a Senior Professor at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS). Currently, he is also appointed at the following distinct positions;
- Director, the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi,
- Chair holder, UNESCO Chair on Medicinal and Bio-organic Natural Product Chemistry, University of Karachi, Pakistan.
- President, the Chemical Society of Pakistan.

- Visiting Professor, Hunan University of Traditional Medicine China.

He has published more than 560 peer reviewed research articles in international and national journals with cumulative impact factor more than 1980 and an H-index 57. He has authored of seven books, contributed in eight book’s chapter and edited four books published internationally by Elsevier. He has four US patents and nine Pakistani patents to his credit. He has supervised and co-supervised 48 Ph.Ds. and 61 M.S/M.Phil. scholars. One of his authored book (Elsevier) was declared best book of the year 2017 by HEC. His authored books (Elsevier) has received large number of citations in international peer reviewed journals.
He received the many prestigious awards included; ♦ Hajra Biloo Gold Medal National Research Award” by the Health Research Advisory Board (2025), ♦ Khwarizmi International Award (KIA), from Ministry of Science Research & Technology Iran and earning the distinguished title of Khwarizmi International Laureate (2024). ♦ He has declared top scientist for the year 2019 by the directorate of Science and technology government of KPK. ♦ He also received the Civil award Tamgha-i-Imtiaz from the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (2015), ♦ Dr. M. Raziuddin Siddiqi Prize (Gold Medal) by Pakistan Academy of Sciences (2015), ♦ Avicenna Science & Innovation Award by Brain Trust UK (2015), ♦ Research Productivity awards by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan (2010 to 2016),♦ the Atta-ur-Rahman gold medal (2006), ♦ Abdus Salam award (2006), and was selected TWAS Young Affiliate in 2010 by Third World Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Shah remained Mentor of Pakistani International Chemistry Olympiad Team since 2009 and the team has won 20 bronze medals and 05 honorable mentions during his mentorship. He served as National Representative in IUPAC (2007-2012). He is member of National Nanotechnology Foresight Committee (PCST) and the COMSTECH consultative working group of scientists from OIC countries, to prepare Ten-Year Plan of Action (TYPOA 2016-2025). He is regularly organizing national and international workshops and delivering lectures. He has the fellowship of Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Islamic world academy of sciences, International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the Chemical Society of Pakistan and Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh. Research projects sponsored by International Funding Agencies such as OPCW (Netherlands), COMSTEC-ISECO (Saudi Arabia), IFS (Sweden), TWAS (Italy), DTRA (USA) and European Commission, National Funding like HEC and PSF. He remained a member in the panel of inspectors for Evaluation of Clinical Trial Sites from DRAP. He conducted 10 Toxicological Studies, 29 Phase-I (BE and PK) studies, 04 Phase-II Randomized Clinical Trial as PI and lead the Phase-I RCT of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine and Phase-III RCT of COVID-19 booster vaccine as country PI.
