The MoU was signed during a ceremony held at ICCBS, University of Karachi, with the aim of creating a framework for long-term cooperation among the three institutions through the establishment and development of the alliance.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, and Prof. Dr. Kemal Aydın, Founder and Chairman of the Ibni Sina Institute, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. The ceremony was attended by scholars and officials from the participating institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah noted that the joint initiative of the three institutions to establish the Ibni Sina Alliance for Science, Research and Innovation would serve as a benchmark for the promotion of science, research, and innovation in both countries.
“This MoU recognizes the importance of scientific research, innovation, and interdisciplinary cooperation for the health and wellbeing of present and future generations,” he said, adding that the agreement also recognizes the importance of strengthening scientific and healthcare cooperation among institutions in Pakistan, Turkey, and the wider Islamic world.
He also highlighted that ICCBS is among Pakistan’s leading centres of excellence in chemical, biological, and biochemical sciences and serves as an international hub for training scholars from various countries.
Prof. Dr. Kemal Aydın described the agreement as a milestone in promoting scientific research, innovation, and interdisciplinary cooperation for the health and wellbeing of present and future generations.
Talking about the Ibni Sina Institute, he said that its primary focus is on advancing research and practices in elder care, active ageing, health diplomacy, and the historical legacy of Islamic medical civilization.
According to the MoU, a joint steering committee will be established by the three institutions to develop a strategic plan, identify joint projects, coordinate scientific programmes, develop funding proposals, coordinate international partnerships, organize congresses and conferences, and monitor the implementation of the agreement.
As per the agreement, the Ibni Sina Alliance for Science, Research and Innovation will work to promote scientific research in biomedical sciences, molecular medicine, biotechnology, gerontology and geriatrics, longevity science, preventive and lifestyle medicine, artificial intelligence and digital health, nutrition and healthy ageing, drug discovery and development, traditional and complementary medicine research, and knowledge transfer and innovation.
